Siddiq Iddrisu, a 2016 graduate of the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, has been selected as the recipient of the 2015-16 Cornell Black Alumni Association (CBAA) Outstanding Student Leadership Award. This award is given to a senior of African descent for his/her outstanding leadership and efforts to enhance the lives of students and the community-at-large while attending Cornell University. The award is granted based on the following: (1) academic achievement; (2) leadership on campus or in community organizations; (3) contribution to improving relationships among Cornell students, faculty, administrative staff and/or the greater Ithaca community; and (4) commitment to uplifting people of African descent including future plans for contributing to CBAA, Cornell University, and the greater community.
Siddiq has participated in numerous leadership activities during his four years as an undergraduate student at Cornell. He served as Vice President of Scholars Working Ambitiously to Graduate (SWAG) a mentorship program founded to enhance graduation and retention rates for Black men at Cornell; President of the Delta Mu chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. which fosters the growth of men, both college and post college men, by providing an outlet and opportunity to serve the community, with the purpose to provide a union for college men of similar ideals and aspirations; Worked as a Resident Advisor for two years in Ujamaa Residential College; and served two years as Social Media Specialist on the Men of Color Council, a unified network of support for minority males that focuses on bolstering the propensity for academic excellence, emphasizing proficiency in leadership, and encouraging personal and professional growth. Siddiq is a recipient of the Omega Man of the Year, President of the Year, and Outstanding Chapter Officer awards for his service with the Delta Mu chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., as well as the International Herman Dreer Learder and Diane O'Connell Memorial Awards.
Following graduation, Siddiq relocated to Atlanta, GA, joining the Atlanta Hawks as a Membership Consultant. CBAA is proud to honor Siddiq!
Founded in 1976, the Cornell Black Alumni Association (CBAA) was conceived as an organization devoted to providing a communication network for Black alumni. Over the years, CBAA’s mission and scope of activities have expanded, resulting in programs that have a direct and significant impact on alumni and future Cornell students.
